End of the Unit

Today we took the unit test which means that the measurement unit is over. Altogether, the unit wasn't that bad but it went by really fast so I had to focus a lot on studying. The unit test was pretty straightforward but there were some lengthy questions on unit conversions. This material will probably be significant later on and I hope to see how we will use it!

Dimensional Analysis

Dimensional analysis in chemistry allows you to get an answer to a problem and also show why it is correct. Dimensional analysis will always use conversion factors that allow you to work out a desired value from a given value.

Matter

Matter is defined as anything that takes up space. The easiest way for classifying matter is to use a flowchart:

Matter can have physical properties and chemical properties. These are qualities that help differentiate samples of matter from each other. Chemical properties have to be observed by changing the identity of the substance while physical properties do not. Examples of physical properties are density, color, mass, and malleability. Examples of chemical properties are flammability and corrosiveness.

Measurement Pre Test

Yesterday we took the pre test for the measurement unit. Some of the questions included topics like significant digits and solutions. Because I had little knowledge on the material on this test, it was very challenging for me. Today we took notes and did an activity on matter and mixtures. After taking notes, I can now understand some of the material in the pre test and look forward to learning more about measurement.
A station in the activity we did today.

Post Test Toughts.

I felt that the final test was pretty easy and straightforward except for a few questions. The test was fairly easy for me because I did the guided readings. This marks the end of the atomic structure and radioactivity unit. Overall, I thought that the unit wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be.
